In this collection, the illustrator wishes to share something specific and personal—her favorite books. Here, we see 4 monochromatic designs that exhibit Kaethe’s expertise in line art as well as a few of her prized reads and authors namely: Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami, Looking for Alaska by John Green, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, and Shooting Stars Only (The Langoliers) by Stephen King.
This series is rendered with minimal design. It has fewer patterns yet is enriched with distinct figures and gentle lines. Besides revealing Kaethe’s great taste for literature, she also confesses a need for time to pause… alone. Her characters are often somber or wrapped in romance, sometimes feeling daring or rooting for a sense of braveness. In these illustrations, we find the figures simply indulging in comfort and embracing solace.
They are gripped by fantasy realized through words and pages, their imagination running wild as they lay luxuriously in bed. The figures are undisturbed in their relaxed postures, not minding anything around them at all. Perhaps it is the reason why this collection is drawn a lot more minimally than the others. It eliminates all distractions and lets their own uninterrupted solitude unfold into the empty space; A space filled with gratitude and contentment with one’s self.
